UGANDA---International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), sebuah LSM yang terakreditasi PBB, dipimpin oleh Ketua Hyun Sook Yoon, berpartisipasi dalam Komisi PBB untuk Status Perempuan (Commission on the Status of Women/ UN CSW) ke-68 yang berlangsung bulan lalu di Markas Besar PBB di New York. Di sana, IWPG bertemu dengan Uganda dan Pantai Gading dan membahas poin-poin khusus kemitraan perdamaian di tingkat kerja.
Pada tanggal 13 Maret, IWPG bertemu dengan Menteri Gender dan Kebudayaan Uganda untuk menyusun peta jalan 5 tahun dan mendiskusikan logistik dan rencana spesifik. Menteri Uganda berjanji untuk bekerja sama dengan secara aktif memasukkan proyek perdamaian IWPG ke dalam rencana nasionalnya.
Pada tanggal 18 Maret, IWPG mengadakan lokakarya dengan pejabat tingkat Kementerian Perempuan, Keluarga, dan Anak Pantai Gading, termasuk Wakil Kepala Staf Menteri, untuk menyusun rencana aksi nasional. Dengan Pantai Gading, IWPG juga menetapkan peta jalan nasional berdurasi 5 tahun dan membahas jalur kerjasama tertentu. Pantai Gading juga setuju untuk mencerminkan inisiatif perdamaian IWPG dalam rencana nasional mereka.
Sudan berjanji akan bekerja sama dengan IWPG untuk CSW tahun depan. IWPG bertemu dengan Sekretaris Utama dan mempromosikan Deklarasi Perdamaian dan Penghentian Perang (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War/ DPCW), mendesak menteri dan Misi PBB mendukung deklarasi ini sehingga dapat disahkan di PBB sebagai hukum internasional.
Selanjutnya, IWPG mengunjungi 88 Misi Tetap PBB dan bertemu dengan 123 pejabat tinggi termasuk menteri, duta besar, dan anggota komite ketiga. Melalui hal ini, IWPG dapat mempromosikan inisiatif perdamaiannya, termasuk DPCW, International Loving-Peace Art Competition, dan Pendidikan Pelatihan Pengajar Perdamaian (Peace Lecturer Training Education/ PLTE).
IWPG juga mengadakan Acara Paralel LSM pada tanggal 18 Maret di Church Center PBB, yang berlokasi di depan Markas Besar PBB, dengan tema “Solidaritas Perempuan: Mitigasi Ketimpangan Gender melalui Perdamaian.” Acara ini merupakan kesempatan untuk merenungkan korelasi antara perdamaian dan kesetaraan gender serta peran penting solidaritas perempuan dalam mencapai hal ini. IWPG telah menjadi tuan rumah Acara Paralel LSM di UN CSW selama tiga tahun berturut-turut, menjadikannya sebagai organisasi perempuan yang benar-benar internasional.
IWPG memandang solidaritas perempuan di seluruh dunia sebagai elemen penting untuk mencapai kesetaraan gender dan akan terus berupaya mencapai perdamaian dan keamanan berkelanjutan serta memperluas partisipasi perempuan dalam proses perdamaian. Sekretaris Jenderal IWPG Na Hyung Jun, pemimpin delegasi tahun ini, berkata, “IWPG akan terus memantapkan dirinya sebagai organisasi internasional untuk perdamaian dengan menindaklanjuti komitmennya dengan pemerintah pusat dan LSM.
CSW adalah komite fungsional di bawah Komite Ekonomi dan Sosial (Economic and Social Committee/ ECOSOC) PBB, yang mengumpulkan pemerintah nasional dan organisasi serta lembaga internasional/non-pemerintah yang relevan setiap tahun untuk berbagi kebijakan tentang pemberdayaan perempuan dan perlindungan hak-hak perempuan serta menemukan cara efektif untuk menerapkan pengukuran kesetaraan gender. Tema tahun ini pada acara ke-68 ini adalah “Mempercepat pencapaian kesetaraan gender dan pemberdayaan seluruh perempuan dan anak perempuan dengan mengatasi kemiskinan dan memperkuat kelembagaan serta pembiayaan yang berperspektif gender.”(REDI MULYADI)***
IWPG strengthens peace partnership with Uganda and Côte d'Ivoire during UN
International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), a UN-accredited NGO, led by Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon, participated in the 68th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) that took place last month at the UN Headquarters in New York. There, IWPG met with Uganda and Côte d’Ivoire and discussed specific peace partnership points at the working-level.
On Mar 13, IWPG met with the Minister of Gender and Cultural Affairs of Uganda to draw a 5-year roadmap and discuss specific logistics and plans. The Minister of Uganda promised to cooperate by actively incorporating IWPG’s peace projects into its national plans.
On the 18th, IWPG held a workshop with the working-level officials of the Ministry of Women, Family, and Children of Côte d’Ivoire, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Minster, to establish a national action plan. With Côte d’Ivoire, IWPG also established a 5-year national road map and discussed specific cooperation avenues. Côte d’Ivoire also agreed to reflect IWPG’s peace initiatives in their national plans.
Sudan promised to cooperate with IWPG for next year’s CSW. IWPG met with the chief secretary and promoted the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), urging the minister and UN Mission support this declaration so that it can be passed in the UN as an international law.
Furthermore, IWPG visited 88 UN Permanent Missions and met with 123 high-level officials including ministers, ambassadors, and third committee members. Through this, IWPG was able to promote its peace initiatives, including DPCW, the International Loving-Peace Art Competition, and Peace Lecturer Training Education (PLTE).
IWPG also held an NGO Parallel Event on Mar 18 at Church Center UN, located in front of the UN Headquarters, under the theme “Solidarity of Women: Mitigating Gender Inequality through Peace.” This event was an opportunity to contemplate the correlation between peace and gender equality and what important role female solidarity can play in achieving this. IWPG has been hosting an NGO Parallel Event at the UN CSW for three consecutive years, establishing it as a truly international women’s organization.
IWPG considers the solidarity of women worldwide a crucial element to achieving gender equality and will continue to work to reach sustainable peace and security and expand the participation of women in peace processes. IWPG Secretary General Na Hyung Jun, the leader of this year’s delegation, said, “IWPG will continue to establish itself as an international organization for peace by acting upon its commitments with national government and NGOs.
CSW is a functional committee under the UN ECOSOC (Economic and Social Committee), gathering national governments and relevant international/non-governmental organizations and institutions every year to share policies on women empowerment and protection of women’s rights and find effective ways to implement gender equality measures. The theme of this year’s 68th event was “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.”
