Guangzhou, June, 2025 — In a meaningful gesture of international cooperation, Professor Li Zhenwei, one of China’s most prominent logistics experts and Vice President of the China Logistics Planning Institute, hosted Mr. Qaiser Nawab, Chairman of the Belt and Road Initiative for Sustainable Development (BRISD), for a high-level breakfast meeting in Guangzhou.
Often referred to as “the first person in China’s logistics planning,” Prof. Li holds multiple key positions including Director at Guangzhou University’s Design Institute, CEO of Guangzhou Lidongwei Logistics Planning Institute, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Guangdong Logistics Association.
The meeting brought together a select group of Chinese entrepreneurs with active investments across Belt and Road countries. Discussions centered on strengthening trade ties, building joint infrastructure projects, and developing sustainable cross-border logistics and supply chains, with BRISD acting as a key facilitator.
Chairman Nawab gifted Prof. Li with a symbolic book of Silk Road stamps featuring Mr. Wang Xiangrong, BRISD’s Ambassador for the Silk Road, as a cultural token celebrating shared values and cooperation.
Key discussion areas included:
• Joint research on Belt and Road sustainability
• Infrastructure synergies in transport and energy sectors
• Expansion of cross-border supply chains through the Greater Bay Area
• Promotion of inclusive, green growth through community development
Prof. Li and attending business leaders responded positively to Mr. Nawab’s invitation to visit Pakistan, signaling future collaboration through MoUs and investment ventures facilitated by BRISD.
This engagement aligns with Guangzhou’s increasing role in international trade, having exceeded ¥350 billion in imports and exports with Belt and Road countries in 2024 alone, and highlights the city’s leadership in fostering economic integration, regional dialogue, and people-to-people bonds.
“The Belt and Road is not just a corridor of commerce, but a road of friendship, sustainability, and global solidarity,” said Mr. Nawab.
As BRISD expands its footprint across Eurasia, Africa, and beyond, this collaboration in Guangzhou serves as a key milestone in realizing a shared future for humanity under the Belt and Road vision.
