Chairman of the Belt and Road Initiative for Sustainable Development (BRISD), Mr. Qaiser Nawab, along with BRISD Director, Sardar Waqar Shahzad Advocate, called on Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, at his office in Islamabad.
The meeting focused on enhancing regional peace, interfaith coexistence, and the promotion of civilizational dialogue as a means to foster mutual understanding and counter radicalism. The discussion highlighted the value of cross-cultural exchange, respect for religious diversity, and inclusive development in building a peaceful and connected region.
Sardar Waqar Shahzad Advocate shared key outcomes from his recent visit to Europe, where he participated in international conferences and diplomatic exchanges centered on human rights, legal cooperation, and interfaith dialogue. He emphasized how best practices from European civil society engagement and institutional models could be adapted to promote tolerance, unity, and legal empowerment in Pakistan and the wider South Asian region.
Chairman Nawab also briefed the Federal Minister on BRISD’s growing network of youth, scholars, and civil society actors working across Belt and Road countries to promote sustainable development, people-to-people connectivity, and intercultural understanding.
Federal Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf appreciated BRISD’s dynamic role in connecting communities and promoting dialogue-based solutions to global challenges. He acknowledged the importance of such efforts in strengthening social cohesion and assured his full support for BRISD’s ongoing and future initiatives aimed at national and regional peacebuilding.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to exploring joint collaborations between BRISD and the Ministry of Religious Affairs in future national and international forums.(001)
